The impacts of plastic on the environment can be devastating. By 2050, it is estimated that there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish, which is already killing marine life around the planet (Source: UKactive)

With this in mind, at the start of the year, we reduced the amount of plastic waste we produced, by removing single use plastic cups at our water station and encouraging our members to recycle and reuse their own bottles.

However, the current pandemic has caused an increase in the amount of single-use plastics used at the gym. This has been caused by an increased use of non-biodegradable disposable wipes, vinyl gloves and also the increased amount of cleaning supplies required to keep everyone as safe as possible. This increase of single use plastics has been a concern to us, and we have researched more eco-friendly ways of providing our services to you,

We are making some eco-friendly additions and will be using new technology that provides a sustainable way to clean, sanitize and deodorize the gym. This will help us reduce the amount of cleaning chemicals required and in turn reduce the amount of single use plastic bottles. The technology we will be using produces stabilized Aqueous Ozone (SAO) using cold water and oxygen from the air around it. SAO works by attacking organic matter and helps kill 99.9% of bacteria. This method is as effective as using industrial cleaners and is incredibly safe and when the jobs is done, it reverts back to water and oxygen with zero impact to our planet and waterways.

In the studio, we have also invested in upgrading our ventilation system to ensure we are COVID-compliant with a constant supply of fresh air into the studio and extraction of old air out. In the gym, we are pleased to announce that we will be installing a UV Light Disinfection Air Purifier. This unit is equipped with two powerful germicidal UV lamps and destroys more than 99.9% of airborne viruses such as Coronavirus, Influenza, MRSA, Tuberculosis, E-Coli, bacteria and moulds. Since reopening after lockdown restrictions, we have kept both doors of the gym open to comply with COVID ventilation guidelines. As winter beckons, the installation of this unit will not only provide a safer gym environment, but also a more comfortable place in which to workout, as we will be able to close the doors. This also ensure we are more energy efficient and help to reduce our effect on global warming.
